OnTrac tracking
How to track my OnTrac package?
Ordertracker provides a simple solution to track your OnTrac packages. To begin, you'll need a OnTrac tracking number provided by the sender or the retailer.
Enter your tracking number in the above field and hit "enter." Our tracker will then fetch the latest tracking details for your package.
You'll see a timeline showing your package's journey, including its current location, transit history, and expected delivery date. This keeps you informed about your OnTrac package in real time.
Where can I find my OnTrac tracking number?
Finding your OnTrac tracking number is usually simple. When you buy an item online or send a package, the tracking number is typically given by the online store or sender. If you're the recipient, the sender often provides it via email, text, or on the order confirmation page.
For online purchases, log in to your store account to find the tracking number in your order history or tracking section. You can also find it in shipping notifications sent to your email or phone.
Once you have the tracking number, you can easily use Ordertracker to monitor your package's progress. This tool shows your package's journey and estimated delivery date.
Why isn't my OnTrac package moving in the package tracking history?
Dealing with a OnTrac package that appears stuck in tracking can be frustrating. Yet, there are steps to tackle this. If you've been using Ordertracker and see no progress, start by being patient. Delays, like customs or logistical issues, can arise.
If the delay remains, contact OnTrac or the sender for specifics. They can offer insight or investigate. Keep your tracking number ready for a smoother process. Sometimes, misrouting or address errors cause delays. Confirm the details provided to you by the sender. Remember, OnTrac customer service or the sender can help resolve shipping delays.
When I track my OnTrac package, why does it show as "returned"?
If you're tracking your OnTrac package and it's marked as "returned", this usually means that the package has been sent back to the sender or the shipment origin location for a specific reason. There are a few common explanations for why a OnTrac package might be labeled as "returned":
An unclear or inaccurate address from sender or recipient might lead OnTrac to be unable to deliver, resulting in a return.
If multiple delivery attempts fail, OnTrac may return the package instead of holding it indefinitely.
If the recipient doesn't collect the package within a timeframe from a post office or delivery center, OnTrac might return it.
International packages can be return due to customs problems like missing or incorrect documents.
If your OnTrac package is "returned" in tracking, contact the sender or OnTrac customer service. This clarifies the return reason and lets you explore solutions like resending or refunding. Please note that return procedures can vary based on OnTrac policies and circumstances.
Why does the OnTrac parcel tracking timeline indicate that my order cannot be found?
When your OnTrac parcel tracking lacks information, it may indicate a "cannot be found" message. This happens for a few reasons:
Ensure your tracking number is accurate. Even a small mistake can prevent the system from recognizing your package.
Sometimes, tracking details might be slower to update in OnTrac system. Wait and check again later for potential updates.
If the package was recently sent, it might not be processed by OnTrac yet. Tracking should appear shortly.

Fast last-mile delivery from California
OnTrac is a parcel carrier specializing in fast last-mile delivery in the United States. Originally founded as a regional expedited delivery service in California, the company has gradually expanded its reach and established itself as a reliable and efficient alternative to traditional national carriers.
True to its promise "On-Time for Less" (i.e., delivering on time for less), OnTrac emphasizes the speed, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of its delivery services. Today, it serves a significant portion of the American territory and offers online retailers and businesses flexible, fast, and affordable shipping solutions to deliver their parcels to end customers.
Company evolution and expansion
OnTrac was founded in 1991 under the name California Overnight. In its early days, the company focused on urgent parcel deliveries within the state of California, offering shippers a faster local option for document and small parcel shipments. Its first clients were notably local businesses seeking an alternative to national carriers' overnight services for fast document shipping in California. With the success of this regional model, the company undertook a gradual expansion in the Western United States. In 2001, to better reflect this geographic growth and the expansion of its capabilities, California Overnight adopted the name "OnTrac" and a new logo. At that time, OnTrac was already operating not only in California but also in Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho, thus covering the entire American West.
During the following two decades, OnTrac consolidated its position as a major regional carrier on the West Coast, known for its 24-hour deliveries in this area. In October 2021, the company was acquired by LaserShip, a major delivery service active on the East Coast, with the aim of creating a national parcel distribution network capable of competing with industry giants (FedEx, UPS, etc.). The merger of the LaserShip and OnTrac networks resulted in the launch of a transcontinental parcel delivery service connecting the East and West coasts of the United States. In 2023, the two entities completed their integration and unified their brand under the single name "OnTrac." Thanks to this merger, OnTrac transitioned from a regional carrier to a nearly national player, strengthening its position in the parcel delivery market for e-commerce and businesses.
Varied shipping solutions
OnTrac offers various shipping solutions to meet the needs of businesses and individuals, with service levels tailored to the urgency of the shipment—whether it's overnight express delivery or more economical options over a few business days. Among the main services offered:
- Residential Delivery: OnTrac provides fast and efficient home deliveries, both to individual houses and apartment buildings.
- Business Delivery: Specializing in business-to-business (B2B) shipments, OnTrac performs reliable and timely deliveries to offices, retail stores, warehouses, and other professional sites.
- Retail Sector Solutions: In collaboration with retail brands, OnTrac offers customized services such as direct-to-store delivery, supplier shipping programs, and replenishment services. These solutions aim to optimize retailers' supply chains and enhance their end customers' experience.
- Flexible Signature Options: The sender can define the parcel delivery terms based on the desired level of security. For example, it is possible to require an adult signature upon delivery, authorize a drop-off without a signature (with liability release), or indicate that no signature is necessary.
- Saturday (Weekend) Delivery: In many areas, OnTrac offers the option to deliver parcels on Saturday, and even Sunday in some regions, providing additional flexibility for both residential and commercial recipients.
Additionally, in some major urban centers, OnTrac offers an expedited courier service for same-day deliveries of urgent shipments through its dedicated local courier division.
Extended distribution network
OnTrac primarily operates in the United States. Historically, its network exclusively covered the Western states. Before the merger with LaserShip, the company served California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho, thus establishing a strong presence along the Pacific coast and adjacent inland regions. Following the integration of the LaserShip network, OnTrac significantly expanded its coverage area. The carrier now serves more than thirty states across the country, including large portions of the Midwest and the East Coast. This expansion allows it to reach nearly two-thirds of the American population. In 2023, OnTrac notably expanded its operations to major Texas metropolises (Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio), further strengthening its national footprint. With this increased scope, OnTrac now stands as one of the largest independent parcel delivery networks in the country, offering a credible alternative to major integrated carriers.
Although OnTrac's activity is centered on domestic deliveries, the company also offers international shipping options by relying on partner carriers. Through these partnerships (and via its OnTrac International branch), customers can have parcels shipped to numerous global destinations. OnTrac acts as an intermediary that handles the shipment from the start and hands it over to a postal network or a global carrier for final delivery abroad, while allowing unified shipment tracking.
Optimized logistics infrastructure
To ensure short delivery times, OnTrac relies on a dense and optimized logistics infrastructure. The carrier operates on a "hub-and-spoke" model (sorting center and branches) with a main sorting center and numerous strategically positioned regional distribution centers near major cities. In total, OnTrac manages more than a hundred logistics sites across its network, including about twenty major sorting centers, as well as a vast array of local agencies and proximity depots for pickup and delivery. This territorial network allows it to efficiently handle high parcel volumes while optimizing routes and reducing transit times.
When a parcel is shipped via OnTrac, it is either picked up directly from the sender by a driver or dropped off at an OnTrac facility. The package then enters the company's network and undergoes scans at each key stage of its journey: during initial pickup (shipment registration), upon arrival at successive sorting centers, and when it is out for delivery at the last local center. These successive scans feed the information system and allow the customer to track the shipment in real-time. Once the parcel arrives at the final agency near the recipient, it is entrusted to a delivery driver for last-mile distribution. If a delivery attempt fails (for example, due to the recipient's absence or incorrect address), OnTrac generally schedules a new attempt on the next business day or drops the parcel at a pickup point/agency for customer retrieval. All these logistics processes are designed to ensure fast, reliable, and transparent delivery for both the sender and the recipient.
Shipment tracking system
Each shipment handled by OnTrac is identified by a unique tracking number used to trace its journey to the final destination. These tracking numbers take the form of a fifteen-character alphanumeric reference. Two main formats are historically used: for standard ground services (OnTrac Ground), the number starts with the letter "C" followed by 13 digits (e.g., C1234567890123); for next-day express delivery service (OnTrac Next-Day), it begins with "D" also followed by 13 digits (e.g., D1234567890123). Following the merger with LaserShip, other tracking number formats have appeared: some identifiers may thus start with prefixes such as "1LS," "LS," "LX," or "BN," depending on the network and shipping service used.
By entering this number on the OnTrac website (in the online tracking section) or via multi-carrier tracking platforms, the sender and recipient can obtain updated information on the parcel's status. The tracking system indeed displays the various stages the shipment has gone through, from the creation of the shipping label to delivery. For each significant status change, an update is recorded: for example, "Label Created" when the parcel is ready to be picked up, "In Transit" when it progresses through the delivery network, or "Delivered" once distribution is completed. This near real-time tracking allows customers to know the progress of their delivery at any time and anticipate its receipt.
